Course Overview

This class will include tips from experienced instructors – what they learned and what they wished they knew “then” and demonstrations on content familiar and unfamiliar to the participants. Understanding of how adults learn and how to get buy-in from your trainees will be included. Performance checklists, competency scales, self-evaluation and peer evaluation, measurement, and basic tips to asking and answering questions will be addressed. There will be special attention to personality and styles of learning in a fun interactive, “hands-on” atmosphere.

Objectives/Topics

As a result of taking this course, you will learn to:
  • Explain the rationale for the process and take questions from the trainee.
  • Determine what the trainee already knows.
  • Demonstrate how to do the task while the trainee watches.
  • Explain the key points.
  • Let the trainee watch the instructor again.
  • Let the trainee begin to do the simple tasks of the job and practice.
  • Set up a checklist to evaluate progress.
  • Create an opportunity for teach-backs by the trainee to ensure understanding of each step or process.
  • Observe, coach, evaluate, give feedback.
  • Repeat.
