Project Management & Business Finance

Course Number: 12-17-RS
Recommended Duration: 5 Days

Intended Audience: Project leaders and project team members.

Course Overview

This course will take a project from an idea through project justification, project planning, and project implementation. A major aspect of project management is the project justification process. To ensure this is covered adequately, a basic overview of business finance will be presented. The ways that projects can affect the business measurements as reported in the various financial statements will be explored. Techniques for calculating the return from a project will be practiced. Additionally, the course will lay the foundation for the key elements of project management and provide practical experience using the project management tools and techniques. The project management course material is based upon the Project Management Body of Knowledge – the international standard for project management approach and practices – and real life experience with many projects in all aspects of business.

Objectives

As a result of taking this course you will leave with a better understanding of how project scope, schedule, resources, and risk are interrelated. You will have the tools to plan a project that is oriented towards success. You will also understand basic principles to manage that project and deal with the inevitable necessity of project change. Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to apply the project management tools in a case study or, if you are with a project team, you can use your team’s project in lieu of the case study. This will provide hands-on experience with the tools and a better understanding of their appropriate use in the project management process.
